FACEBOOK POLICIES:

  • What to post?
    • The MLSA Robson Hall page is a place to post for Robson Hall related events, outreach, inquiries OR events that foster community
      • Examples:
        • MLSA committee events, self-organized events for Robson Hall students to foster community
        • Is the parking person outside ticketing- this is URGENT and please post!
        • Is there free food in the common room- this is also URGENT and please post!
      • What not to post
        • A) General inquiries about Robson Hall
          • There are other outlets for you for this!
          • First- try filling out the general inquiries form on the Robson Hall website:
          • If it is a common inquiry, the MLSA executive will then make a general post about it!
          • Or message the academic committee, MLSA exec or another student directly
          • Examples:
            • When is the exam schedule being posted? When are orientation events? When will marks be uploaded?
          • B) Inquiring or posting about anything personal that does not have a connection to Robson Hall?
            • This is what your personal Facebook page is for!
            • Examples:
              • Having a garage sale?
              • Wondering about fun things to do in Winnipeg?
            • C) Posting a general comment about something?
              • The MLSA Robson page is very busy and should be kept only to things that are really important! Don’t worry- we think your comments are funny- just keep them to the comment section on the posts about events, general inquiries etc.
              • Examples:
                • You’re looking forward to an event
                • You want to thank a committee for something
              • When to post?
                • Are you wanting to remind people about an event?
                  • Keep that to a minimum. We recognize that law students are busy and may forget the time or place of an event, or that tickets are going on sale- but limit the amount of reminders you post. Remember law students are also easily annoyed! 😉
                  • For sales events- keep the reminders to:
                    • i) One general announcement
                    • ii) One reminder the week of and
                    • iii) One reminder on the last day to buy tickets
                  • Think this isn’t enough? Remember- law students (contrary to what we may think) are adults capable of reading and putting things in their calendar!
                • Where to post?
                  • A) Is your message relevant to all of Robson Hall?
                    • If yes, refrain from posting in all of the individual 2019, 2020, 2021 pages AND the MLSA Robson Hall page- we are all in the same MLSA Robson Hall page and posting in every single one the same thing will not convince us to listen to you, but rather we may become more annoyed (see above) or miss the information we want altogether:
                      • If you post the same thing in all the groups, sometimes you’ll get lumped into notifications with other people who are posting that day, and if someone doesn’t open your notifications because they can see there are three of them and they only open one, they may miss the other person’s post -it’s also about courtesy to other posters as well as all students!
                    • Try to streamline your messages and keep them tailored to the specific pages they are relevant for
                    • Examples:
                      • Is your post about orientation week for 1Ls? If so- just post in the 2021 page and refrain from doing so in the MLSA Robson page
                    • B) Individual group pages:
                      • If you are having a speaker event for your student group- post in your individual group page first.
                      • If you want to post in the Robson Hall page- invite Robson Hall to join your group to hear about the speaker event by sharing your post from the original group- instead of reposting the exact same message. (If I wanted to know about your BLG speaker, I would join the BLG group FB page!)
                      • An exception to this general rule, because your MLSA executive is for the people:
                        • You may post one reminder of your student group event in the MLSA page either the day of or the day before your event, to ensure maximum attendance and notifications.

If you don’t follow these rules, the MLSA executives will not accept your post. It isn’t personal- they are just trying to keep the MLSA page useful and efficient.

Happy posting!
